Does the new 2026 Tiguan generation represent a concrete improvement over the 2022–2025 models?
The third-generation 2026 Tiguan (MQB Evo platform) is a meaningful redesign with a 50 mm longer wheelbase, pushing cargo volume to 1,001 litres with rear seats fully forward (versus 868 litres on the 2025). The interior adopts VW's new IDA (Intuitive Digital Architecture) with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.9-inch touchscreen replacing the physical climate controls of the previous generation — those are replaced by illuminated touch sliders that have received mixed ergonomic reviews. The TSI 2.0L engine output rises to 201 hp from 184 hp, improving mid-range torque for passing. The IQ.LIGHT matrix LED lighting system — standard from the Comfortline trim — is among the best in the segment for adapting to unlit rural highway driving at night.
