Aperçu du modèle

Hyundai Venue 2021

The Venue entered its third year for 2021, having launched in 2020 as Hyundai's entry-point subcompact crossover. The 1.6L MPI four-cylinder producing 121 hp pairs with either a six-speed iMT (intelligent Manual Transmission with automated clutch) or a continuously variable transmission. The CVT is the volume seller in Canada; the iMT has found a small but enthusiastic audience among buyers who prefer engagement without a traditional clutch pedal. FWD-only — there is no AWD option on any Venue — is the platform's defining limitation for Canadian buyers in snowy regions. Equipped with appropriate winter tyres, the Venue handles Canadian winters adequately; the 170mm ground clearance is tight in unplowed residential streets but sufficient for plowed roads. SmartSense safety suite — forward collision avoidance, lane keeping assist, and driver attention warning — is standard across all Canadian trims. The Venue's competitive base price under $22,000 CAD makes it the segment's value leader.

Questions fréquentes

01

Is the Venue workable in a Quebec or Ontario winter without AWD?

Absolutely, provided you fit dedicated winter tires — a legal requirement in Quebec from December 1 to March 15 regardless of drivetrain. The Venue's front-wheel drive paired with four Michelin X-Ice Snow or Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5 tires handles packed snow and urban slush with confidence. The 170 mm ground clearance clears typical curbside snowbanks without scraping. AWD only becomes a real limitation in two scenarios: a steep unpaved cottage driveway in deep unploughed snow, or a heavily inclined private entrance that hasn't been cleared. For a city-to-suburb use case, front-wheel drive is entirely adequate. The Venue's light curb weight — under 1,250 kg — also helps, as it requires less torque to get rolling on ice than heavier crossovers.

02

What mechanical issues are documented on the Venue?

The first generation (2020–2024) scores well in reliability surveys, but a few items deserve attention. First, the IVT continuously variable transmission can exhibit slight hesitation when cold at temperatures below -15°C — a normal characteristic that disappears after about two minutes of warm-up, not a defect. Second, the infotainment screen on 2020–2021 models can freeze and require a reboot cycle; a software OTA update released in 2022 resolves this on most units. Third, the rear drum brakes on Essential and Preferred trims can develop a surface rust layer after extended parking in humid conditions, producing a brief grinding noise on the first brake application of the morning — cosmetic behaviour that does not affect long-term brake life. These are minor items on an otherwise well-sorted entry-level vehicle.

03

Does the Venue have enough room for a small family with a car seat?

For a couple with one child in a car seat or booster, yes. Rear legroom measures 86 cm — equivalent to an Accent sedan — and the rear doors open wide enough to simplify car-seat installation. However, two full car seats side by side consume virtually the entire rear bench, leaving no space for a third adult in reasonable comfort. The 355-litre cargo area (rear seats up) fits a compact stroller or two carry-on bags, but not both simultaneously. If your family has two children requiring car seats, look at the Kona or Tucson instead. The Venue is optimised for one to two adult passengers or a single-child family: it is not engineered for intensive family logistics with multiple large child seats and gear.

04

Which Venue trim delivers the best value on the Canadian used market?

The Preferred Trend package is the sharpest value on the used market: it adds heated front seats, heated steering wheel, rear-view camera, and an eight-inch touchscreen — all essential items for Canadian winter use. The price gap between a base Essential and a Preferred Trend on the used market is typically $1,500 to $2,500, a spread that is fully justified by those comfort additions. The Ultime adds a panoramic sunroof and blind-spot monitoring, useful but not essential in an urban context. Avoid the base Essential without options for winter driving: the absence of heated seats and heated steering wheel is immediately noticeable from November onward, and retrofitting these features is not practical.

05

How does the Venue compare to the Kia Soul as an urban alternative?

Two different philosophies. The Venue adopts the crossover SUV profile with an elevated driving position and 170 mm ground clearance; the Soul keeps its signature tall-box shape at similar ground clearance. The Soul offers substantially more rear-seat legroom and a more generous cargo area (1,135 litres with seats folded versus 1,005 for the Venue). The Venue is more manoeuvrable in tight parking situations and returns slightly better fuel economy (6.7 L/100 km versus 7.4 L/100 km for the Soul). On the used market, the Soul generally commands $2,000 to $3,500 more at equivalent mileage. If rear passenger space and cargo volume matter most, the Soul wins. For pure urban agility and the smallest footprint, the Venue is the logical choice — and the entry price is genuinely hard to beat in the subcompact crossover segment.
