Ford Ranger 2024

The 2024 Ranger is a full redesign on an updated T6 platform, bringing a completely new exterior, a standard 12-inch portrait SYNC 4 touchscreen, a new 2.3L EcoBoost with revised output at 270 hp (unchanged figure but with improved torque curve), and — for the first time on the Ranger — an available 3.0L Power Stroke turbodiesel producing 210 hp and 500 lb-ft of torque. The diesel's towing capability reaches 3,130 kg. The Ranger Raptor — with a 3.0L twin-turbo V6 at 405 hp — joins the Canadian lineup for the first time, completing the performance off-road segment alongside the Toyota GR Tacoma. A new independent rear suspension on select trims replaces the leaf-spring rear of the T6, improving both on-road ride quality and payload behaviour. Interior quality is substantially improved from the T6 generation, narrowing the gap with the Colorado's highly regarded third-generation cabin.

Questions fréquentes

01

What technology improvements does the 2024 Ranger bring over the 2023 third-generation debut?

The 2024 Ranger builds on the third-gen architecture with targeted upgrades: wireless phone charging is now standard on XLT and above, several SYNC 4 software bugs identified during the first model year are resolved, and wireless Android Auto connectivity is more stable. A head-up display (HUD) is now available as an option on the Lariat trim. The Pro Power Onboard system — offering a 400W in-cabin outlet and a 1,500W bed-mounted outlet — is now an available option on the XLT 2024, where it was previously restricted to Lariat. This feature is popular among Quebec and Alberta tradespeople who need on-site power for tools, battery chargers, or job site lighting without a separate generator.

02

How does the 2024 Ranger perform in extreme cold-weather conditions common across northern Canada?

Ford validates the Ranger through cold-weather testing at Timmins and Kapuskasing, Ontario, with cycles reaching -40°C. The cold-start system includes a fuel pre-heater and optimized injection mapping for the E10 ethanol blends distributed across Canada in winter. The electric power steering is tuned to deliver progressive feedback even when low temperatures affect rack viscosity. Northern Ontario and Alberta owners consistently report reliable cold starts down to -35°C with a battery in good condition. Upgrading from the OEM lead-acid battery to a higher-capacity AGM battery is recommended after three years of service in regions above the 50th parallel, where cold-start battery loads are more severe and sustained.

03

Is the 2024 Ranger Lariat the best value in the lineup, or does a well-optioned XLT make more sense?

In 2024, the price gap between a comparably configured XLT (~$43,000) and the Lariat (~$50,000) is roughly $7,000. The Lariat adds: heated and ventilated leather seats, a power tailgate, 360-degree surround-view camera, LED bed lighting, and the optional Tech Package with integrated navigation. For a Ranger used primarily as a work and family vehicle, the XLT with Group 301A and the tow package delivers the best value per dollar. The Lariat becomes the right choice if comfort and long-term resale matter — Lariat leather trims sell for $2,000 to $3,500 more on Quebec and Ontario used markets compared to equivalent XLT trucks at the same mileage.
