Has the 2026 Ford Explorer retained the 2.3L EcoBoost base engine, or were there powertrain changes?
For the 2026 model year, Ford retains the 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder (300 hp) as the Explorer's standard engine, paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission and intelligent all-wheel drive. The 3.0L twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 (400 hp) remains available on the ST and Platinum trims. No mechanical changes were made to either powertrain for this model year. Ford focused 2026 updates on the SYNC 4A infotainment system and extended several advanced safety features to standard equipment on a broader range of trim configurations, improving value in mid-grade trims like the XLT and Limited.
