The 2021 Kia K5 replaced the Optima in Canada, bringing a new platform (Hyundai-Kia N3 shared with the Sonata), a revised powertrain lineup, and significantly updated styling. The 1.6T turbocharged four-cylinder produces 180 hp in FWD configuration; the 2.5T produces 290 hp and is paired with an eight-speed wet-clutch dual-clutch transmission with available AWD — the only mid-size sedan in Canada at the time offering a turbocharged AWD powertrain at this price point. The exterior design is sharper and more aggressive than the outgoing Optima, with a longer hood and a fastback roofline. The 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen is available from EX trim. Fuel consumption on the 1.6T averages approximately 9.5 L/100 km combined in Canadian conditions; the 2.5T AWD is approximately 10.5 L/100 km.
