The fifth-generation WRX for 2022 introduces the FA24F turbocharged 2.4L flat-four producing 271 hp — a displacement increase from the outgoing EJ25. The FA24F is a newer engine design with improved thermal management, better EGR integration, and a refined turbocharger with less lag than the EJ. The STI is not yet available; the WRX sedan and Sport Hatchback (a new body style for this generation) carry the FA24F in standard tune. Symmetrical AWD continues with a mechanical centre differential and rear limited-slip differential on GT trim. The new-generation chassis shows notable improvements in structural rigidity — lateral body flex on track days was a known criticism of the outgoing generation. Infotainment uses an 11.6-inch vertical touchscreen with wireless CarPlay, a significant quality step over the previous generation's dated system. The Sport CVT's paddle-controlled manual mode is smoother than the outgoing unit, though enthusiasts still prefer the six-speed manual.
