Why did GM move the engine to a mid-mount layout on the C8 Corvette?
The shift to a mid-engine layout with the 2020 C8 generation transformed the car's balance: weight distribution goes from 52/48 front/rear to 40/60, improving rear traction out of corners and reducing the chronic understeer of earlier generations. The LT2 V8 6.2L naturally aspirated engine sits behind the driver, freeing a 155-litre front trunk. This architectural decision places the C8 directly against entry-level Ferrari and McLaren models at a fraction of the price.
